How to Get Away with Murder season 3, episode 5 recap: It's About Frank. Last week, we discovered that Laurel is alive and pregnant in our flash- forwards. We don’t know who the father is yet, but we do know something more about Bonnie’s abusive father. And that’s that Frank killed him.

When Laurel overheard the news, Bonnie advised her not to tell Annalise. Meanwhile, Oliver and Connor aren’t any closer to getting back together, and if things keep up, Wes and Meggy will be the next couple to break up. So, here’s what you missed: In our first flash- forward of the night, we’re in the hospital with Laurel.

Meggy identifies her first and tells Bonnie. They’re concerned about smoke inhalation, causing Oliver to freak out. Bonnie takes a phone call with an unknown caller who she asks to trust her. Then, she discloses to this person that Laurel is pregnant. I feel like she wouldn’t tell Annalise to trust her, so maybe it’s Frank? Frank: Bonnie arrives at the funeral parlor to see her father, Bob.

She checks his suit and then instructs them to cremate him. Laurel calls her to ask if she’s seen Frank yet. Mid- question, Bonnie meets up with Frank. He looks a hot mess. Immediately, she hugs him and thanks him. In Frank’s hotel room, Bonnie asks why he did it. She confronts him about Wallace Mahoney’s death and he confesses.

It was back to business as usual with Scandal on Thursday (April 20), which means it was chock-full of intrigue, chessboard-like maneuvering, and, of course, one big. Scandal Recap: Defying Defiance. While she’s in the shower, Annalise calls to ask about Bob. Frank listens in the background. Later, Bonnie begs Frank to come home and ask Annalise for forgiveness. As Bonnie says, they both need to forgive each other. Frank explains that there’s no going back and asks Bonnie to run away with him. He says they can find a boring town and get normal jobs. Together, they’d make cute babies.

After she fails to respond, he says he’s teasing and turns on the TV. When Frank has nightmares that night, Bonnie revisits the idea of running away together. They’d hike and whatever else to make them forget. Things get weird when they start to caress each other’s faces. I understand they’re the only ones who get each other, but that was sufficiently uncalled for.

Let’s hope this is a one- time thing. The next morning, Bonnie enters the hotel room with coffee, but Frank has disappeared. At school: Wes reveals to his murderous group of friends that he’s meeting Meggy’s parents that night. Drake harasses the group and reminds them that Annalise is suspended.

At the moment, they have nothing to do but be normal little children at school and guess Michaela’s accent. Drake also explains that they’re going to get a new instructor soon, but Laurel sees this as a positive thing. They’re finally free. Someone steals Mr. Drake’s laptop. After he basically calls Michaela a trophy wife, she steps up and prepares to throw hands. She calls him a whole bunch of names and threatens him to “walk away.”When Wes meets Meggy’s father, he pries into Wes’ life.

Meggy announces that Wes’ mother died of cancer and that he never met his father. Both these statements are lies. Good job, Wes. Laurel receives a message from Bonnie, “He’s fine. Stay quiet.” Oliver walks in with Mr. Drake’s laptop, having discovered that he was behind the posters. What a sucker. Annalise visits Simon and threatens him with expulsion or jail time if he doesn’t give the Keating 5 the arbitration outline.

Wes asks Laurel to meet him in the hallway to discuss breaking up with Meggy. He cites that he can’t keep lying to Meggy, but Laurel can’t tell him what to do. Wes implies they could be together, but Laurel reveals that “Franks isn’t gone.”Annalise threatens to sue the university for $5. The president agrees to give it to her. When Annalise gets home, she feels chipper. But her mood dampens when Wes and Laurel arrive to tell her the truth about Frank’s whereabouts.

Annalise: At first, it seems like the suspension isn’t too bad for Annalise. She has more free time to go to the salon and gab with her girls. In fact, her hairdresser is Mary J. Guys, Mary J. Blige is her hairdresser. Afterward, she calls Bonnie to ask how things are and Bonnie reminds her to attend her AA meeting. To keep up pretenses, Annalise goes to the meeting. Guess who’s also in attendance?

The president of the university. Wow, what are the chances?

Annalise returns home to empty her liquor cabinet. Commit, girl. Some of the bottles are vintage, with specific memories attached, but she tosses them anyway. After the bottle tossing, she finds other ways to occupy her time. All right, she’s not faring well with the suspension. She falls in and out of memories of Sam and can’t fall asleep. Alone at home, Annalise dances. She calls Nate and leaves him a drunk voicemail about how lucky he is to escape her mess. Wes arrives later to find her dancing to her jam, “Inhale Exhale” by NAO.

Not long after, she’s in the bathroom puking and Wes cleans her up. She starts to cry with shame, but Wes refuses to leave. Then, she remembers that he shot her and Wes claims that he just wants to protect her. We discover how Sam and Frank came to know each other. While Frank was in prison, Dr. Sam Keating visits and discloses that his sister (Marcia Gay Harden) knows Frank’s aunt. Frank’s been “incarcerated” since he was 1.

Sam enlists Annalise to get him out when he’s up for parole. When Annalise looks at his file, she thinks it’s not worth it. Sam compares Frank’s case to Bonnie’s and convinces her to do it.

The next day, Annalise visits Frank and tells him to confess. When she goes home, she tells Sam that Frank wants to be there and Sam only interferes because he needs to work through his parenthood fantasy. Sam visits Frank again. He guesses that Frank wants to stay in prison because he feels guilty.

Then, we learn what Frank did. After getting yelled at and losing his TV, Frank ran over his father with his car.

Frank says he didn’t really care and is only upset he didn’t do it right. However, Sam theorizes that Frank does feel guilty because he cries through the whole confession.

Finally, Annalise agrees to take Frank’s case. He promises to be cooperative as they go over what happened again. Frank figures out she’s pregnant, and the rest is history. Closing flash- forward: Bonnie tells whoever that Laurel was pregnant and she had no idea.

Which sounds suspiciously like, “I had no idea she was pregnant when I set the house on fire.” Oliver calls Connor, but Michaela answers the phone — oh yeah, her parents are white Southern folk — and hears that Laurel is pregnant. Though, she doesn’t know where Connor is. And that’s it. Final answer. I think. The next episode of How to Get Away with Murder airs next Thursday at 1.
